My client is the leading seafood processor providing frozen, chilled, branded and retailer branded fish.

Job Purpose

  • To manage day to day aspects of the quality audit function on site to ensure food safety and compliance to customer specifications and food legislation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct internal audits to establish conformance to specifications and third party requirements
  • Supervise Quality Assessors routine checking of process control and quality monitoring systems
  • Control factory quality documentation systems to ensure correct specification and attribute sheets are available for manufacturing use
  • Appraise daily quality documentation as part of quality monitoring system
  • Through internal audits maintain the level of hygiene, housekeeping and personal hygiene
  • Maintain Customer complaint information for production management
  • To think ahead throughout the shift to ensure that the Quality checks are carried out to optimum capabilities in relation to changeovers
  • To continually monitor, record and feedback to their team the line performance against all standards.
  • To develop, motivate and encourage all team members to participate fully within the team and facilitate the encouragement of new and more effective ways of operating
  • To manage the performance of the Quality Assessors through regular reviews, carrying out necessary disciplinary procedures, return to work interviews, holiday request authorisations, etc
  • To communicate performance issues and requirements to the appropriate people and ensure a smooth changeover between the technical team
  • To ensure microbiological and swab samples are drawn and submitted
  • To highlight any issues to the Technical/Quality Manager and liaise with production and engineer
  • Identification and implementation of continuous improvement area's.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Knowledge of the factors influencing food safety and the means of monitoring and controlling
  • Knowledge and experience of food manufacturing processes, quality assurance legislation and YBS policies, best practice and customer specifications.
  • Basic knowledge and experience of food safety compliance audit protocols (e.g.BRC).
  • Ability to control and influence safety, hygiene, quality, quantity and cost for the whole area of responsibility.
  • Prioritising skills and ability to forward plan for the duration of the shift.Interpersonal skills to motivate and focus team to achieve Quality/Technical requirements, within specification
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to allow individuals in the team to develop to their full potential.
  • Numerical and analytical skills to ensure accurate record keeping for all aspects of area of responsibility.
  • Understanding of people management issues including disciplinary and grievance procedures, interviewing and absence procedures.
