Position: Shift Engineer

Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester

Salary: £41,253.00

Shift Pattern: Rotating, Monday to Friday - 06:00 - 14:00/14:00 - 22:00

You will be responsible for repairing equipment breakdowns as quickly and effectively as possible to limit the impact on the site's production. Be proactive in continuous improvement and planned maintenance programs for all site equipment and processes. You will have a background in food production/FMCG.

Principal Tasks:

  • Identify and rectify as efficiently as possible any faults on the production process in line with current health and safety legislation. Notify the Factory Engineer of the anticipated "downtimes", complete report sheets and record all breakdown details (on task sheets), including time to rectify fault.
  • Carry out planned routine maintenance tasks across the site and rectify any issues found, if time permits. Report any outstanding issues to Factory Engineer for an assessment of consequences and completion plan.
  • Be proactive in the equipment / process continuous improvement programme and be aware of equipment performance trends such as efficiency, quality and waste.
  • Carry out routine equipment installations as required and be involved in or be familiar with any project plans for the installation of new equipment.
  • Responsible for the quality of information recorded in the shift log and effective communication at shift change. This ensures unfinished tasks can be safely completed and the previous shift issues understood.
  • Any changes made to PLC programmes will be backed up and any other changes made to equipment installations or settings must be updated in the required files or manuals.
  • Liaise with the Factory Engineer (Store) using all available information to determine availability of required spares. If the outcome is a non-stock item then the existing ordering procedure should be followed. Out of normal hours the existing stores procedure should be followed and if a part requires ordering it must be reported to the Factory Engineer who will determine the urgency and consequence. All items for refurbishment or that have been repaired must be correctly labelled and stored in the allotted place.
  • Contacting external suppliers / technical support may be required out of normal hours to liaise on problems.
  • As part of the team-working environment assist in educating operators in the mechanical operation of their equipment ensuring that health and safety legislation is complied with. This will allow them to assist with basic maintenance practices and ensure the correct set-up procedures are followed for their equipment.
  • Ensure that Company health and safety standards are complied with and safe working practices are always adopted.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties suitable to the level and responsibilities of this role as required.
