Job Details

Our client, a respected Tier 2 Civil Engineering Contractor, is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major industrial development project in Pontefract.
The project involves the construction of a large-scale industrial premises and associated infrastructure works, including a £10m civil engineering package consisting of earthworks, roads and drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete structures, foundations, external works, and site-wide infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced project and play a key role in ensuring works are delivered accurately, safely, and in line with programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities

• Carry out all setting out duties across multiple work fronts.
• Ensure works are constructed in accordance with design drawings and specifications.
• Produce accurate as-built surveys and records.
• Assist with quality assurance inspections and documentation.
• Collaborate with Site Engineers, Senior Engineers, Sub Agents, and Project Managers to resolve technical issues.
• Check line and level of completed works to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings and communicate setting out requirements to site teams.
• Support subcontractors with setting out information and technical guidance.
• Monitor and report any design discrepancies or construction issues.
• Maintain survey equipment and ensure calibration records are up to date.
• Assist with progress reporting and programme updates.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer on civils and infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in roads, drainage, utilities, earthworks, RC structures, foundations, and external works.
• Proficient in the use of Leica, Topcon, or Trimble surveying equipment.
• Experience using AutoCAD and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple work areas.
• Strong understanding of QA procedures and as-built documentation.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Valid CSCS card essential.

Desirable

• Experience working on industrial, logistics, manufacturing, or large commercial developments.
• Knowledge of GPS machine control and digital engineering processes.
• First Aid certification.
