We are seeking an experienced Tekla Draughtsman / Design Manager to join our client in Hatfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled individual who is ready to take ownership of both in-house design work and the management of external subcontract designers. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and eventually leading our in-house design team as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate and detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures.
  • Manage and coordinate work from subcontract designers to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Oversee design schedules and deliverables to meet project deadlines.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams to resolve design and technical queries.
  • Maintain drawing standards and implement best practices within the design department.
  • Support the future development of an internal design team, providing mentorship and leadership as the department expands.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience using Tekla Structures.
  • Strong understanding of structural steelwork design and detailing.
  • Proven ability to manage subcontract or external design teams.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work full-time (5 days per week).

Desirable

  • Previous experience leading or mentoring a design team.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and erection processes for structural steel.
  • Relevant engineering or construction-related qualification.
