Working for a specialist R & D Organisation who operates two dedicated laboratories which focus on developing advanced materials and technologies to address sustainability and decarbonisation challenges.

About the Role

You will be working within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a varied portfolio of projects. Everybody has the opportunity to see the whole picture, every day. You will be able to contribute to project activity through precision synthesis, formulation and analysis, to enable high quality outcomes and support technology commercialisation. You will join a multidisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, materials scientists, and engineers, providing insight to development work gained from decades of combined experience. 
 
About the Work
Materials preparation (synthesis and formulation), analysis, and reporting results will comprise much of your work. You will be working with materials such as polymers, plastics, oils, lubricants, catalysts etc i.e inorganic chemistry / materials. In addition, you will be required to participate in laboratory management activities, including equipment maintenance, ensuring a safe working environment, and supporting the Laboratory Manager in their assigned duties.

About You


  • Minimum BSc (2:1 or above) degree in Chemistry or a similar, laboratory-centred discipline. Masters or PhD qualifications also welcome
  • Experience: Work (for at least 1 year, either before, during or following your degree) in an academic or industrial laboratory featuring synthetic or analytical techniques, preferably requiring new structure preparation or characterisation.
  • Capability in analysing scientific literature to identify new synthetic or analytical procedures
  • Familiarity with accurate recording processes for information derived from laboratory work
  • Demonstrable ability to accurately and accountably analyse and communicate results and information
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and safely to schedule in a laboratory environment with hazardous substances and procedures.• Communication: Strong in written and spoken English and able to communicate in a clear concise manner
  • Knowledge Awareness: Willing to develop knowledge (team or personal) relevant for the role, the team and personal development.
  • Results orientation: Aware of the importance of delivering results and can see a pathway to achieve them
  • Teamwork: Able to work in all situations while being amiable and empathic to those around them
  • Adaptable: Able to work with a flexible approach to meet work demands and challenges
  • Problem solving: Able to accurately assess a situation, communicate the intention and create a positive outcome.
