Position: Project Manager
Responsible to: Programme Manager
Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: £50-55K, commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: 37 hours a week - 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday, 8am to 1pm, Friday
Nicholas Associates have an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager, to join an established client in the West Yorkshire area.
Our client is a leading engineering and manufacturing business specialising in heavy engineering projects, delivering complex, large-scale contracts. As the central point of coordination, driving progress, resolving issues and maintaining momentum, the Project Manager will take full ownership of assigned projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This is a hands-on role requiring a practical, solution-focused approach, with regular presence on the shopfloor and at project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the delivery of assigned projects, ensuring control of scope, schedule, cost, risk, and quality through to final handover
- Take ownership of challenges, proactively identifying issues and implementing effective solutions to maintain progress
- Maintain and update project plans, monitor milestone performance, and drive recovery actions where required
- Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure timely design completion, including management of drawings, specifications, and change control
- Oversee procurement and manufacturing progress, working closely with suppliers and internal teams to support on-time delivery of key components
- Drive and coordinate build activities across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring readiness for testing and commissioning
- Maintain a visible and active presence on the shopfloor and at project sites to monitor progress and resolve issues directly
- Manage customer and site interfaces, coordinating enabling works and ensuring dependencies are effectively controlled
- Plan and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), installation, and commissioning activities
- Monitor project costs and performance, supporting forecasting, reporting, and commercial requirements
- Maintain accurate and structured project documentation, ensuring compliance with internal processes and contractual requirements
- Coordinate subcontractors and support effective communication across all project stakeholders
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
- Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2, APM, APMP or equivalent
- Engineering qualification (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or similar) level 3-6 or equivalent
Skills & Knowledge
- Demonstrated resilience and ability to adapt to changing project demands and delivery challenges
- Ability to develop, manage and maintain detailed project schedules; identifying and mitigating risks
- Proficiency in project planning tools e.g. Microsoft Project or equivalent
- Commercial awareness, inc. cost control, forecasting, cash flow and subcontractor management
- Technical awareness of engineering systems (mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulics)
- Knowledge of ERP systems
- Understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts or similar contractual frameworks
Experience
- Proven experience in project management within capital equipment, machinery build or complex engineered systems delivery
- Experience working to demanding delivery schedules and supporting programme recovery activity
- Experience in presenting project updates and reviews to customers and senior stakeholders
- Experience for coordinating internal teams and subcontractors across multiple workstreams
- Experience of producing clear, high quality project reports for senior stakeholders and customers
- Experience of machinery build and multidisciplinary systems integration
- Experience in managing installation and commission activities
- Experience within heavy engineering, manufacturing or industrial environments
