Position : Port Operations Manager, Port Manager / Terminal Manager

Location : Liverpool Docks

Please note : Previous experience in either a port / terminal / dock environment OR a bulk material handling / chemical processing environment is essential. We cannot consider people who only have warehouse / logistics type experience unfortunately. We can only consider people who already have the right to live and work in the UK, proof of which will be required.

Salary Package :

  • Circa 35-45,000 per annum depending on experience,
  • 5-10% bonus per annum based on KPIs,
  • private health insurance,
  • pension scheme with up to 10% contribution matching,
  • 25 days holiday per annum plus public holidays

About You :-

  • You will need the energy and enthusiasm to operate in a flat structured company environment
  • You will be happy to “roll up your sleeves” and pitch-in with the team as well as using your initiative to overcome challenges and meet deadlines in an efficient manner. This is most definitely not a role for someone expecting an ivroy tower environment
  • Proactive troubleshooting and strong people management skills will be key to maintaining disciplined control and success in a real-time large scale distribution environment.
  • You will be IT literate with MS Office products, and will ideally have ERP experience (or be prepared to learn ERP)
  • Good spoken and written English skills and numeracy essential
  • Must have cost control experience
  • Experience of working with and handling dry bulk products, and packed goods
  • Must have both QA and H&S experience and management level knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO compliance.

About the Role :-

  • You will take responsibility for the smooth operation of the Terminal, dock and storage areas including managing the teams who work within them.
  • You will work closely with our logistics team and coordinate with third party suppliers and transportation partners to keep the terminal running as cost effectively as possible.
  • You will never compromise on health and safety or environmental matters, and will keep a close eye on all activities to ensure the quality of our products and storage and the safe upkeep of our facilities
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the Terminal, dock and storage areas.
  • Overseeing vessel discharge operations, experience not required and we will offer training
  • Liaising and communicating Port Authorities and other partner organisations as necessary to ensure smooth operations at all times.
  • Understanding and implementing Health & Safety, Environmental and other Regulatory procedures.
  • Ensuring 100% compliance with all Health and Safety requirements applicable to the premises, as well as all company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that QA compliance in line with Company procedures and regulated standards.
  • Ensuring plant and equipment maintenance with site engineers.
  • Inspecting equipment, warehouse and storage facilities on a regular basis, and taking appropriate action to deal with any issues, faults or ad-hoc maintenance requirements.
  • Managing day to day stock movements from bulk to pallets and onward transportation.
  • Managing the negotiation and implementation of transport partner contract agreements, SLAs and other third party supplier relationships.
  • Ensuring cost and efficiency optimisation across the Terminal.
  • Using ERP systems to maintain stock management, and other management and financial information.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting and provision of management information to Newport Group.
  • Supervising the day to day operations of all functions and ensuring adequate cover to meet operational requirements and cover shifts as necessary, including production of work rotas, hiring of temporary labour and workers when required, managing employee leave requests in line with operational demands.
    Prioritising and assigning work in order to meet daily demands and production deadlines.
  • Managing employees, on a one to one basis, instructing and guiding them in their jobs.
  • Providing induction and orientation to new employees, and providing initial on-the-job training.
  • Controlling operations to ensure minimal waste and losses.
  • Conducting staff performance reviews.
  • Undertake any other duties and tasks which are reasonably required by management.
