Position: Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical OR Electrical OR Multi Skilled
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Shift Patterns: Days OR Mornings & Afternoons. No nights.
Salary: £38K-£50K, commensurate with experience
Nicholas Associates has an excellent opportunity for Maintenance Engineers, to join an established client in Sheffield.
You will be responsible for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of industrial machinery, plant and equipment on site. You will balance planned preventive maintenance (PPM) with rapid, on-the-spot troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical faults.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive Maintenance: Design and carry out scheduled routine checks to proactively identify potential issues and prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Investigate mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment faults. Diagnose the root cause and apply safe, effective repairs.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all machinery and maintenance practices comply with occupational health and safety regulations. Perform regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Record Keeping: Log all maintenance tasks, part replacements, and service history using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Emergency Response: Act as a first responder during unexpected machine downtime, occasionally working in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 cover.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including PLCs, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Analytical Skills: Keen diagnostic and problem-solving ability to read system schematics and evaluate equipment performance.
- Soft Skills: Excellent organisational, communication, and time-management abilities. Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Education & Experience: Engineering qualification, such as a BTEC, City & Guilds, in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering
