Position: Group Purchasing Manager

Salary : 50,000 to 55,000 plus Benefits and Potential Bonus

Nicholas Associates (Engineering, Manufacturing & Technical) are recruiting on behalf of a major metals manufacturing client for a Group Purchasing Manager to join their Kent based team.

This role will particularly suit a candidate with commodities buying experience on an international platform.

In short, this role is much more than just a 'Metals Buyer' and the successful candidate will play a pivotal part in ensuring the success of the business in the years to come.

The Role

Key aspects:

  • To manage a spend of c.14 million, the large majority of which is on materials (metal alloys).
  • To manage all suppliers from an activity, pricing, delivery and capacity /capability perspective.
  • Work on an International basis – including Asia and The Far East.
  • To carry out audits on suppliers.
  • To carry out checks on new /potential suppliers.
  • To ensure continued availability of materials necessary for production.

This will be achieved through:

  • Supplier relationship management through regular reviews, visits and supplier audits with new suppliers measured and reported against current suppliers
  • Negotiating with suppliers backed by SLA's and supply contracts for at least top 10 suppliers by value to ensure that the company's bought out requirements (Raw Materials, Consumables and Services) are continually delivered on time, to the correct quality and at the lowest possible price and risk.
  • Providing guidance and support to other members of the Group Purchasing Team to resolve general or specific issues that arise on an ad-hoc basis. To ensure that all sites are working in a consistent manner towards the same Departmental objectives.
  • Acting as a point of escalation for the company and its supplier's in support of achieving the Purchasing/Planning Department's daily objectives.

The Person

The successful Group Purchasing Manager will have:

  • CIPS accredited is preferred although not essential.
  • Knowledge or experience of the supply chain involving metals (and in particular alloys).
  • Experience of dealing internationally - ideally Asia and the Far East.
  • Supplier audit experience.
  • Manufacturing /Engineering sector experience is essential.
  • Happy to travel to supplier sites where necessary including international.
  • Any experience of commodity buying or forward purchasing would be beneficial.
