Job Title: First Line Manager

Location: Grimsby

My client is the UK's Leading fish and Seafood processor providing frozen and chilled, branded and retailer branded fish who are looking to recruit an experienced First Line Manager to join their team.

Job Role:

  • Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager the First Line Manager is responsible for a Mini Business area.
  • Creating and embedding a continuous improvement culture, running the Mini Business area on a daily basis as well as working with, leading, driving and developing the team to achieve performance on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety and Environment and Manpower (QCDSEM)
  • Provide the short interval control over the activities within the mini business and plan for the short-term future.
  • Managing the Team in the Mini business, providing support to help the team carry out their tasks as well as full accountability for the development and succession planning of the team members.
  • Driving a common sustainable continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities:

General:

  • Actively promote and Drive common sustainable continuous improvement, fully participating in Manex activities engaging the full commitment of the Team
  • Actively support setting targets and KPIs for the Team and the mini business area driving the delivery in a positive and collaborative environment
  • Continuously take actions to eliminate losses and waste to improve the Mini Business Area's KPIs ensuring the Team are fully engaged in the relentless pursuit of zero
  • Continuously take actions to implement Standardised work in the Mini Business Area
  • Support all pillar activities through leading, participating embedding and sustaining improvements, promoting cross functional teamwork ensuring all necessary resources are made available.
  • Successfully handover at beginning and end of shift escalating non conformance's from other shifts

Quality:

  • Leading by example quality culture
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, food safety and legality in the Mini Business Area, driving continuous improvements
  • Manufacturing to the correct specifications and standards, ensuring they are fully understood and followed.
  • Validation of process checks

Cost:

  • Improve the performance of our assets to maximise value, minimise waste and reduce costs
  • Understand the elements of standard costs and impact of the cost variances, ensuring cost effective management of staff, understanding the cost drivers – overheads etc. Compliance with standards and looking for ways to continually improve.


Delivery:

  • Drive continuous improvement using a team based approach guided by data and facts.
  • Manage allocation of daily tasks (e.g. determining and allocating Advanced Operator tasks, line start up checks) and Team's tasks within the Mini Business Area
  • Ensure data and reports are accurate and comprehensive and fit for purpose
  • Liaise with planners to optimise production schedule in line with business needs for the Mini Business Area
  • Control energy usage within budgetary requirements
  • Continue to drive relentless pursuit of zero in all forms of waste and losses
  • KPI Management ensuring up to date and accurate data is completed on time and in full.
  • Ensure all hygiene tasks completed to company standard.


Safety & Environment:

  • Conduct our operations in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Lead by example and embed a culture of Safety promoting Behavioural safety.
  • Proactively manage Safety through conducting risk assessments
  • Understand the legal responsibilities in the case of accidents and near misses, be able to perform investigation of accidents and near misses, carrying out root cause analysis to follow up with accident prevention
  • Record and communicate hazards, risks and near misses with extensive Team involvement
  • Control of emissions and waste to minimise environmental impact ensuring all incidents are reported and investigated.

Skills and Experience required

  • Ability to build and lead a team within a mini business area. 2 way communication, improvement techniques, costs analysis.
  • Lean / problem solving techniques
  • Understand Health & Safety Policy and regulations to ensure compliance with legal Safety requirements and Business standards for Mini Business area
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene
