Position : Electro-Mechancial Engineer / Electrical Design and Development Engineer

Location : Bristol area, Avon, Somerset, South West, M5 corridor

Salary : 40-60,000 according to experience

About You :

Degree qualified in elctrical, mechanical or electro mechanical discipline.
Minimum 5 years industrial experience.
Working knowledge of AC (single and three phase) and DC (24, 48, 110, 220V up to 350A).
EMC (best practice) including wiring panel layout for signal segregation.
LEAN manufacturing understanding
AutoCAD (Level 2) 2D and 3D
Solidworks an advantage
Working knowledge of ePlan would be an advantage.
Microsoft 365, including Excel & Word
Good numeracy skills
Project management skills an advantage.
Ability to interpret and question customer specifications.
Ability to interpret customer and industry conformance requirements.

Position Overview :
  • Generate and submit approved electrical schematics; mechanical drawings & work/specification instructions for production of industrial electro-mechanical products and systems.
  • Take and interpret customer requirements in line with working to International (ISO), British (BS), European (EN) and other standards.
  • Ensure costs are minimised and agreed levels of service are achieved
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • To support the business in delivering quality drawings in a timely manner, typically within 4 weeks
  • Design, specification & test of new system designs, working closely with the Design department on the specification of the electronic components that go intother systems.

Main Duties
  • To manage the order files awaiting specification.
  • System design of industrial systems (24 to 220 VDC) including the sizing, selection of key components such as transformers, power modules, contactors, fuses and batteries.
  • Making use of standard parts where necessary such as enclosures and transformers
  • Calculation of transformer and choke sizes
  • Calculation of fuse/MCB/MCCB to provide full discrimination based on customer spec
  • To generate an internal technical specification/drawings based on our quotation and customer specification.
  • Work with suppliers and Purchasing on the selection of electrical & mechanical components.
  • To create a Bill of Materials to enable procurement of components on time.
  • To create routings to enable accurate cost analysis and capacity planning for production.
  • To ensure that all necessary drawings are available and approved for each Works Order.
  • To compile an O&M manual and other technical documents for each Works Order.
  • To issue test and configuration data and to assist and support factory acceptance tests (FAT), working closely with customers and sales.
  • Interpretation of customer and industry specifications (ISO/BS/EN)
  • To maintain all supporting documentation and drawings for standard products.
  • Standard products to be managed through engineering change and version control.
  • Work with sales, service and customers in project managing complex systems
  • Opportunity to be part of Cross Functional Teams (multidisciplinary project teams) in the design of next generation systems
  • Work with other team members on continuous improvement.
  • There may be a requirement to attend customer and supplier sites from time to time.
  • Provide training for customers, service engineers and production staff.
  • To aid Purchasing and Quality Manager in the selection and approval of suppliers.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to the wider business on progress.
  • To aid in the implementation of paperless documentation.
  • Identify, roll-out and utilise the best tools to reduce lead time, improve quality and reduce cost.
  • To maintain quality standards within processes
  • To maintain H&S standards within working area.
  • To maintain environmental standards within working area.
