Our client is a groundworks and civil engineering company based in the West Midlands, operating as a sub-contractor for many major construction companies over various market sectors in the Construction Industry. They have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Director.

Role Purpose



  • Development and management of the commercial function, covering estimating, surveying, cost control and buying.


  • Support the MD to grow the Division with business development, client relationships, and recruitment of key personnel.


As a Commercial Director, your main responsibilities are as follows:


  • To lead the Regional commercial team in maximising the commercial performance of the Regional Business
  • To ensure that the strategy, policy, culture and standards established by the business leadership team are effectively deployed within the commercial team.
  • Control costs and effectively manage budgets
  • Manage and support projects on commercial and supplier contracting aspects of projects across the Regional Business
  • Support the MD in work winning across the Regional Business
  • Manage operational efficiency, continuously identify areas for business improvement
  • Manage relationships with key external and internal stakeholders

Person Specification:

The following qualities and experience are essential:


  • Experienced in either the delivery of groundworks at a senior management / director level or commercial experience with a large housebuilder.
  • The role suits an individual with a proven track record in successfully leading a target driven commercial team within the groundworks or house building industry.
  • Exceptional negotiation, leadership and communication skills are required
  • Excellent commercial acumen and strong financial and business skills are essential for this role.
