Are you an experienced Buyer looking for an exciting opportunity in a dynamic residential groundworks company? ​ We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to join our team in South Birmingham. ​

About the Role: As a Buyer, you will play a key role in procuring materials for building projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. ​ Reporting to the Head of Buying, you will manage supplier relationships, negotiate prices, and liaise with on-site teams to source high-quality, cost-effective materials. ​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate prices, and place orders. ​
  • Source cost-effective, high-quality materials for on-site teams. ​
  • Compile weekly order sheets into smaller orders for efficiency and better pricing. ​
  • Contact suppliers for pricing/quotations and negotiate the best costs. ​
  • Place daily material orders and send reminders to site teams. ​
  • Provide up-to-date ETAs to site teams, chase outstanding orders, and amend as needed. ​
  • Ensure correct items are delivered to site on time. ​
  • Arrange collections and transport for site materials, including muckaways, haulage, tarmac, concrete, road sweepers, and skips. ​
  • Handle invoice inquiries and update systems with order details. ​
  • Train junior buyers and buyer admin assistants. ​
  • Answer incoming phone calls, including reception overflow. ​

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within residential groundworks or civil engineering environments. ​
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Adobe, and Outlook. ​
  • Self-motivated, methodical, and organized with excellent attention to detail. ​
  • Ability to work to deadlines with high accuracy and care. ​
  • Strong multitasking and communication skills (email and phone). ​
  • Confidence in negotiation and a team player attitude. ​
